TO MY DAD, I SAY....

Its customary to express emotions to mothers, but when you have a father like mine, you are simply blessed. My dad is such a father that makes you wanna hug and peck him (very unafrican thing u may want 2 say, hugs ko kiss ni). Anywayz, when dad marked his birthday three years ago, below is the poem I wrote for him. To my dad, I say....

When the moon is full with all its brgthness
I remember the light you have shone into my life
When the sky is clear with all its beautiful stars
I remember the beauty you have brought into my life

When it’s harmattan with its coldness
I remember the coldness of your eyes,
when you gave me strict measures
to curb my seek of street pleasures

When the day is sunny with all its warmth
I remember the warmth when you used to tuck me in
When I act and people wonder how I could be so good
I rejoice for having a father like you
When I make people smile, laugh and happy
I know that’s you in moi
When I misbehave well and act like I don’t care
I hate myself for letting you down

When I was pretty young
You were a father
When I was a teenager
You were a father
At my young adulthood
You are still a father

You showered me with love, I am always wet
But you didn’t spare the rod, lest I get spoilt
You never let me go hungry,
mere thought of you sends away my hunger,
even when you retired you were never tired

You showed me the right direction
with your unwavering full attention
You always asked me to pray
so I wouldn’t become a devil’s prey
You've given me so much love
I still wonder if I really deserve it
You've bin a father, a friend,
a companion and a role model

Your merciful way of giving
Has brought back mercies on me
When you are wrong daddy
I know you are only being human
I will always appreciate your strength and
understand your weaknesses

I want to say thank you
For being hard when you were
For being soft when you were
For being caring when you were
For being more like a motherly father
With all your care and love

There ain’t nothing better than having a father like you
Thanks for being you Dad, I will always cherish you!
